Pigeonwood

Hedycarya arborea

Pigeon wood forms a part of the pigeon diet through the production masses of bright orange/red berries. This species is easy to recognise by its dark stem and paired serrated leaves. Possums feast on these leaves and as a consequence a number of the pigeon wood have shoots growing up from the base of the tree (epicormic growth).
