Mangemangeroa is recognised as a Premier Park and is described as an area of dramatic estuarine landscape at the edge of the Auckland urban area. The flora found in the Reserve represents a variety of podocarp and coastal forest not easily viewed elsewhere in suburban Auckland. Well sign posted and maintained walks run along the estuary from Sandspit Road to Hayley Lane.
With the March 2017 ‘weather bombs’ there are a number of slips on some sections of the track. It will take some time before the Council get these sorted so access for a few months will be a bit restricted. The best access is from Hayley Lane to the bridge or, at the Somerville Road carpark, walk down the path below the Barn then go either direction along the estuary until you meet the slips.
